I wrote this song a few years ago, based on a remark i had overheard in a bar from a dapper young gent chatting to two lovely young ladies. The remark stuck in my mind and this is the result.
I don't really do this song much anymore, but my other band The Ferny Brackens have adopted it into their repertoire.
lyrics
They say that hugging trees will make you dirty
But I think that the opposite is true
They say that those who save the Earth have got no style
But here's a word of wisdom from me to you
I'm living proof, I'm living proof
That you can be a hippie and still look good
They say you can't stay clean around a campfire
You can't avoid the wood smoke as a rule
But is nuclear power and petrol any cleaner?
And by using them, does that make you look cool?
I'm living proof, I'm living proof
That you can be a hippie and still look good
Here come the hippies with their beards and pierced noses
And three piece suits
Looking very dapper with their tops and tails
And army surplus boots
Here come the hippies with their beads and flowing robes
And organic food
Well, if they can't solve the problems of the world today
At least they look good!
I'm living proof, I'm living proof
That you can be a hippie and still look good
