about

I wrote this song in February 2011, shortly after my dad passed away, and this song is about, and for, him.

lyrics

So many things that i want to say
But it doesn't matter anyway
'cause time moves on and now i'm still here
Living through another year
You'd want me to live so that's what i'll do
Living life for me, but remembering you
The world still turns and the crops still grow
Soon the sun will melt this snow

You used to sing "Waes Hale" at the top of your lungs,
Play the mandolin and sing in foreign tongues
You weren't a saint but you tried to make people smile
And when your moment came you showed no fear
Because you tried to enjoy every day you were here
You made it all worthwhile, Jimmy Carlyle

and this time when i came to stay
i held your hand as you passed away
and when i was there in your house alone
i still felt like it was your home
I sat in your chair and put your records on
But it wasn't the same because you had gone
And though i accept that you have died
There'll always be a part of you inside

You used to sing "Waes Hale" at the top of your lungs,
Play the mandolin and sing in foreign tongues
You weren't a saint but you tried to make people smile
And when your moment came you showed no fear
Because you tried to enjoy every day you were here
You made it all worthwhile, Jimmy Carlyle
